Security and trust

What GlowCast does on your PC

You’re installing software from a new publisher. Here’s what it does, what it doesn’t do and why Windows still shows a warning for now.

Why Windows or Chrome show a warning

GlowCast isn’t code-signed yet. Our application is with Microsoft. Windows SmartScreen treats unsigned programs with few downloads as unknown, and Chrome can flag such files too. So the warning means: “We don’t know this publisher yet.”

Code signing and more downloads should reduce the warnings over time. Exactly when that happens is up to Microsoft and Google.

Which connections GlowCast makes

Our privacy policy explains exactly which data is transferred.

How updates are protected

Every update is digitally signed. GlowCast checks the signature and checksum before installing anything and only downloads from glowcast.studio over HTTPS. A modified file is rejected.

How we check every version

Our automated tests run before each release. After that, more than 70 virus scanners check the installer on VirusTotal. If a major vendor flags it, we don’t release it.

We can’t avoid every report right now: a few smaller scanners that rely on automatic estimates flag new unsigned programs as suspicious. We consider these false positives, but you can judge for yourself.

The checksum helps you spot damaged or incomplete downloads: in PowerShell, enter Get-FileHash .\GlowCast-Setup.exe and compare. Only download GlowCast from this website.
